Minors Baseball
#1089
This is a competitive baseball program for boys 9 and 10 years of
age. A player must be within the age range on or before May
1, 2008 to tryout for this division. Highly
competitive 8 year olds may try out for the Competitive
Minors.
Players are selected to
teams using a tryout and draft process.
* Tryouts for
the 2008 season are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April
19 & 20, 2008.
The tryout location will be announced ASAP. There will be a non-refundable $5 tryout fee payable at the tryout - check
payable to WAA or cash. Notification will be sent by email
and posted on the web for tryout time approximately two
weeks in advance of tryouts. If you do not put an
email address on your registration form, then you will need
to check the website for tryout information. No tryout
information will be sent out via regular mail. If a
player is not selected in the draft, they will be placed in
one of our recreational divisions for the appropriate grade
level. If this happens, a refund will be given for the
cost difference between the competitive and recreational
divisions.
Standings are kept and a
league champion is determined. The league will consist
of 8 teams,
and each team has a roster of 13.
There is a
mid-season All-Star game and a championship tournament at
the conclusion of the season in which all eight teams
participate. Many of our teams are sponsored by local
businesses.
Although
the league is competitive, an emphasis is placed on the
fundamentals of the game as players are instructed on the
basics of hitting, throwing, catching and base running
within a framework of teamwork and sportsmanship. For
further details in reference to the rules, please click on
the link below.
Games are
6 innings long, players pitch the entire game and regulation
baseballs are used. 60' bases and 44' pitching distance.
Players
must provide their own glove, spikes (plastic only) and
white pants.
WAA will provide bats, balls,
batting helmets, catcher
gear, and bases for each team.
Minor league replica shirt, hat and socks are included with
the registration fee.
Game
time is typically 6:15 PM on weeknights. Saturday and
Sunday game times will vary. Each
team may also play a couple Saturday night games.
The season starts approximately the 3rd week of
May and will run thru the middle of July. Teams will
participate in a 14 game season.
