College Scholarships For Team Chicago Soccer Girls:

It pays…
to continue playing...

By Phyllis Ellam
Wheatland Athletic Association
Public Relations Director

Most kids get their first exposure to team sports through park districts and local leagues but rarely do they stay with a program for 13 years.  That is not the case with Oakhurst residents Amanda Boe and Molly Borchardt.  Both are 2005 graduates of Waubonsie Valley High School and both started playing soccer with the Wheatland Athletic Association’s (WAA) Kindergarten program in the fall of 1991 and they recently just wrapped up the U18 Panthers season with Team Chicago Soccer Club the traveling soccer program of the WAA.  Molly will continue her soccer career at DePaul University where she will be a freshmen defender and Amanda will be attending Washington University in St. Louis and will play goal keeper for the school.

“The WAA and Team Chicago has given me an opportunity to play the game that I love” said Amanda.  “I’ve played T-Ball, softball, summer basketball, and traveling basketball besides soccer and I’ve been able to earn money by refereeing, working soccer camps and hall monitoring for the WAA and I know Molly has done the same."

scholarships, at the 2005 Banquet.  Not pictured are Meredith Novak and Lynn Bovard.

The list of young women who have received scholarships for college does not end with Amanda and Molly.  Other athletes from Team Chicago Soccer Club that have also received scholarships include:

  • Meredith Novak- University of Wisconsin-Parkside
  • Lynn Bovard – US Naval Academy
  • Sarah Teegarden – University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
  • Bailey Briggs - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
  • Ariel Fortune – Azusa Pacific University
  • Hannah Nussbaum – Northern Illinois University
  • Colleen Hillgard – Grand Valley State University
  • Vida Mohagheghpour - Grand Valley State University
