2024 Summer Recreational Softball Registration

Join WAA Recreational Softball Program for summer fun and Fastpitch action! Program emphasis is on fundamentals of the game as players are shown the basics of hitting, throwing, catching and base running within a framework of teamwork and sportsmanship.   

 Recreational Softball program consists of four divisions.  Register based upon your participants CURRENT school grade.  Division descriptions are below.

WAA utilizes fields in School District 204, Fox Valley Park District, Wheatland Township and Naperville Park District. Games will be played within the boundaries of these organizations.  Teams are organized based on special requests, neighborhoods and schools. No travel players allowed.

All coaches are volunteers and coaches set up the practice location, day and time. Rosters, schedules, uniforms and equipment are distributed to coaches in early-May. Roster, game and practice schedules will not be available until after all coach meetings have been held. Players will be contacted by the coach of their team after distribution.

Games are played at locations in close proximity to the teams neighborhoods whenever possible. The 12 game season starts after Memorial Day and will run until mid-July. 1st & 2nd grade level will play on grass fields on Tuesday & Thursday evening with a 6:15pm game time. 3rd – 8th grade levels will typically play one week night game and one weekend game (typically Saturday). Game time is 6:15 PM on weeknights; Saturday game times will vary.

Division Information

1st & 2nd Grade Softball is an introductory softball program.  It is a natural transition from T-Ball.  Emphasis will be on fundamentals of the game as players are shown the basics of hitting, throwing, catching and base running within a framework of teamwork and sportsmanship. 

Games are 5 innings long and players are rotated in and out every inning as well as shifted to different positions in the field.  Coaches will use the WAA provided pitching machine.  A half inning is over once 4 runs are scored or 3 outs are made.  The score will be kept, but standings will not be maintained.


 3rd & 4th Grade Softball is an instructional softball program. Emphasis will be on fundamentals of the game as players are shown the basics of hitting, throwing, catching and base running within a framework of teamwork and sportsmanship.  Games are 6 innings long and players are placed in a continuous batting order and positions are rotated every two innings. Players and coaches share pitching responsibilities according to the rules.  A half inning is over once 4 runs are scored or 3 outs are made. The score will be kept, but standings will not be maintained.


5th & 6th Grade Softball a recreational fast pitch softball program.  Emphasis will be on continuing to learn the fundamentals of the game, with introduction of standard softball rules.

Games are 6 innings long and players are placed in a continuous batting order and positions are rotated every two innings. A half inning is over once 5 runs are scored or 3 outs are made.  The score will be kept, but standings will not be maintained.  Players pitch most or all of the game.

5th/6th grade participants will have the opportunity to be selected to participate in the WAA Softball All Star Game in July. 


7th & 8th Grade Softball is a recreational fast pitch softball program. Emphasis will be on the fundamentals of the game while preparing them to play at a higher level.  Most standard softball rules are used.  Games are 7 innings long and players are placed in a continuous batting order and positions are rotated every two innings. A half inning is over once 5 runs are scored or 3 outs are made.  The score will be kept, but standings will not be maintained. 

7th/8th grade participants will have the opportunity to be selected to participate in the WAA Softball All Star Game in July.

Volunteer Opportunities

WAA is a non-profit volunteer organization.  Parent volunteer coaches are needed for all teams at all levels.  Please volunteer to coach your child's team!  

Coaching Descriptions;

Head coach: 

Primary responsibility for management and motivation of the team. A solid understanding of the rules of softball is helpful and a desire to teach softball fundamentals to children is necessary.  Attendance at a WAA softball coaching clinic is required. The head coach notifies all team members within 48 hours of coaches meeting/equipment hand-out.  Provides team with roster, schedule, rulebook, and picture information. Head Coach must adhere to the WAA Code of Conduct and is subject to a background check.

Assistant Coach:  Assists the head coach. A solid understanding of the rules of softball is helpful and a desire to teach softball fundamentals to children is necessary. Assistant Coach must adhere to the WAA Code of Conduct and is subject to a background check

  • Players must provide their own glove, helmet, protective fielding mask and bottoms. Click here for an affordable Rawlings face mask.
  • WAA will provide balls, 2 bats, and bases for each team. A jersey and socks are included in the registration fee of each participant.

Special Requests

Remember: Special requests for team placement will be considered carefully, but there is NO GUARANTEE they will be honored.  For requests to be considered, the registration should be submitted as early as possible.  Requests are considered on a first come, first serve priority.  Each participant is limited to two requests (eg, friend, coach) per registration.   WAA tries to place children based on special requests, neighborhood and school.   However, we also have to make balanced teams and and are limited by the number of volunteer head coaches.  Please spell names of requested players/coaches correctly.
